The collection features handcrafted pillows and bed runners that pair traditional Ethiopian artistry with modern design

April 4th, 2022 [Brooklyn, NY] – Today, global design company West Elm announces the launch of its exclusive collaboration with Bolé Road Textiles. The collection includes rugs and indoor/outdoor pillows, featuring bright hues and bold patterns that couple traditional Ethiopian hand-woven artistry with modern design.

“The concept for this collection was Pan-African coast, I pulled inspiration from coastal towns like Dakar and Accra, as well as African designers I admire,” says designer and founder of Bolé Road Textiles, Hana Getachew. “I looked to several forms of weaving craft, including Ethiopian textiles, then layered color, pattern and texture together to capture the vibrant spirit.”

Ethiopia-born Getachew founded Bolé Road Textiles to bring her love of Ethiopian handwoven fabrics and her career in interior design together. The textiles are hand-spun, dyed and woven by artisans in Ethiopia with meticulous attention to detail—some of the designs take up to two days to weave.

West Elm and Bolé Road Textiles share a history of working with artisans to preserve handcraft traditions. “This collaboration means that homes around the country will have Ethiopian-made pieces in them,” says Getachew. “It’s why I do what I do: to share Ethiopian artistry and craft with the world.”
