West Elm Design Crew helped Emmy nominated actress lean into soothing vibes and personal touches for a unique nursery

West Elm Kids today unveils its latest celebrity design project with PEN15 co-creator, producer, and actress, Maya Erskine. Following a headline-making pregnancy announcement, Hulu star Maya Erskine and partner, This is Us actor Michael Angarano, partnered with West Elm Design Crew to prepare for baby. They worked together to create a nurturing nursery space with plenty of room for baby Leon to play, learn and grow.

Selecting West Elm Kids’ original and modern products, Maya and lead designer Dallas Wagman from West Elm Burbank, created a space that is light, airy, and carefree. While Maya didn’t consciously commit to a décor theme, she and Dallas’s West Elm Kids picks were guided by texture, color, and interior design.

  • Dallas incorporated a rich, tactile mix of fabrications to inspire Leon as he grows, including nubby, soft-to-the-touch throws, such as the Luxe Chenille Baby Stroller Blanket (29.50), and knit stuffed animals ($33), a Rainbow Zigzag Wool Rug ($700), and the handwoven Mushroom Basket ($39) and Modern Weave Lidded Hamper ($130).
  • Natural woods and neutral colored upholstery were chosen for their soothing tones, including  the GREENGUARD Certified Natural Nash Crib ($799), and the dark wood Dawson Dresser and Topper ($1,199) changing table for a touch of contrast. The room’s layout was thoughtfully designed to ensure ample space for parents to move around easily, and room for Leon to play.
  • Avoiding gendered blues, pinks, and pastels, Maya and Dallas gravitated towards a calming foundation of neutral tones, with bold, energizing pops of color. “This allows your child to figure out what they like without you forcing your own favorite colors on them,” Dallas says.
  • Remaining true to West Elm’s ‘Good Design’ approach, the space features sustainably sourced, handcrafted, Fair Trade Certified, 100% organic cotton, GREENGUARD Gold and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEXT Certified, and Contract Grade products that are good for kids, good for the planet, and good for the home.

To make the nursery feel unique and personal, Maya decorated the room with a collection of stuffed animals, a painting of their family dog, Pearl, a collection of Japanese books from her childhood, and draped the crib with a Peter Rabbit embroider rail cover from her cousin. “Don’t worry so much about cohesion – just get things you love,” Maya says. “Keep it simple and don’t go too wild because your baby will outgrow it.”

An admittedly “really indecisive person,” Maya leaned on Dallas to source furniture and validate her hunches. “It was amazing to have someone with a great eye help me pick things and assure me, so I didn’t have to worry about anything,” she says.
