BROOKLYN, NY – April 22, 2021 – This Earth Day, global design company and leader in responsibly sourced home furnishings West Elm invites customers to join in its commitment to being Good for People, Good for the Planet every day. West Elm has been committed to responsible design and manufacturing all-year round since its founding in 2002. Today, more than half of West Elm’s original, modern designs support at least one sustainability initiative, including Organic, Sustainably Sourced, Fair Trade, LOCAL, Certified Nontoxic and Handcrafted. As a result of its industry leadership in sourcing low-impact materials, reducing waste and prioritizing circularity, West Elm has affirmed its position as the only home retailer on Barron’s list of 100 Most Sustainable U.S. Companies for the past four years.
This Earth Day, West Elm is proud to highlight a selection of the tangible environmental impact created as a result of its commitments:
- 40% of wood furniture offerings are FSC®-certified, helping support forests and ecosystems worldwide.
- 2.3B liters of water and 3M kwH of energy saved in 2019 by sourcing organic cotton for its bedding, bath and textiles
- 200+ farmers trained in more sustainable practices in 2019 through its partnership with the Better Cotton Initiative.
- 57M plastic bottles kept out of landfill through REPREVE® recycled polyester.
Today, West Elm bookends its “21 Days of Earth Month” campaign that proudly emphasizes its commitment to sustainable living by partnering with experts and activists to share resources and approachable tips for small changes that can make a positive impact on the planet.
